Urge Legislators to Approve Community Provider Rescue Fund

March 27, 2008 - Appropriations Committee released its proposed budget with contains a 1% COLA for private providers.  This is profoundly inadequate to meet the needs of Oak Hill and our colleague agencies in the community.

Connecticut is still the wealthiest state in the nation and 1% is simply not enough.

The budget is in the hands of the legislative leadership

Contact your legislator!  If you've never contacted a legislator now is the time to do it and if you've done it you need to do it again.  Let them know that 1% simply is not enough.  A 2% cap remains on our room and board rates and we are also working to get that removed so real costs will be covered.

The chronic underfunding jeaopardizes, safety and quality of care for our clients; the livelihood of our excellent staff at all levels; and the viability of private agencies.  Please act now by calling, emailing and writing -

Senator Donald E. Williams, Jr., President of the Senate (860) 240-8600; 1-800-842-1420; email: Williams@senatedems.ct.gov

Rep. James Amann, Speaker of the House (860) 240-8500; 1-800-842-1902; email: Jim.Amann@cga.ct.gov

Sen. John McKinney, Senate, Majority Leader (860) 240-8805; 1-800-842-1421; email: John.McKinney@cga.ct.gov

Rep. Lawrence Cafero, House Republican Leader, (860) 240-8700; 1-800-842-1423; email: Lawrence.Cafero@housegop.ct.gov

Oak Hill gets an Image Facelift

Oak tree seedling

In Oak Hill's 114 year history, one thing has remained constant - change, moving from serving children who are blind to people with varying disabilities.  Once known as the Oak Hill School for the Blind, the Connecticut Institute for the Blind and now simply as Oak Hill

While we all know who we serve there are many in the state who are not aware of us and the many services we provide.  Our rebrand will strengthen our position as we speak to legislators  about the need for adequate funding and to community members to ask for their financial support.

Did you know...? On Oct. 4, 2008, Oak Hill celebrates 115 years of providing services and solutions for people with disabilities
