Who are Day Services for?

Lance

Adults (21 years or older) with intellectual, developmental and physical disabilities (including visual and hearing impairments) in Connecticut.

Oak Hill Day Service provides work and volunteer options for adults; designed to increase independence and enhance self-esteem.  Competent and committed staff provide the necessary support and set high expectations needed for participants to have dignified and fulfilling lives.   (Day Services program map). What kind of Day Services do we offer?

George

Supported Employment:

Accompanied by a job coach who provides on-the-job training.  Participants work at local community businesses throughout Connecticut.  Such services as:

  • Landscaping and grounds work
  • Laundry room upkeep
  • Janitorial services
  • Mailing services
  • Store stocking
  • Maintenance
  • Product assembly
  • And more...

 

Adult Day Services/Work Crews:

Participants typically work at Oak Hill community sites and are employed in such jobs as:

  • Product assembly
  • Packaging and repacking
  • Collating, sorting, and labeling
  • Janitorial and mailroom work

Senior Services:

Emphasis is placed on reinforcing daily living skills; socialization; and community integration; such as:

  • Light vocational work and volunteer opportunities in the community integration
  • Leisure and recreational activities (gardening and pet, music and creative art therapy programs)

Ray, a resident of the Vernon Oak Hill group home works at Park Chestnut apartments by helping with garbage pick up and removal.  Ray's responsibilities have expanded to include an array of tasks with the cleaning crew who help maintain the appearance of the apartments.  "Ray has done a wonderful job and is becoming more self-sufficient and sociable with his housemates.  We're all very proud of him." - Paige Dakin, group home manager, Oak Hill Community Programs.

Oak Hill Day Service Programs are contracted for and monitored by the Connecticut Department of Developmental Services (DDS)and other agencies and are tailored to meet the special needs of people who have intellectual and physical disabilities and who may also have visual and hearing impairments.

Oak Hill is a recognized private provider by the Connecticut Department of Developmental Services (DDS) Self-Determination Program (Comprehensive Waiver and Individual and Family Supports Waiver) designed to help people with disabilities and their families to choose and design an individualized program that will encourage growth, independence and quality of life.
