Lives Have Changed Because of Oak Hill

Jim, a 45-year-old tree cutter, fell 40 feet while on the job, leaving him paralyzed from the chest down and frustrated with his lack of independence. He came to the NEAT Center at Oak Hill to find out if he could use a computer and search for a job. Staff demonstrated a head tracker, a device that emits a beam of invisible infrared light. By moving his head while looking at the computer screen, the beam effectively acts as a computer mouse. After a short demonstration in its use, Jim was able to navigate the internet and stated to staff,

“This is the first thing I’ve done independently since the accident.”

"I suffer from MS and am unable to lift myself.  I went to the NEAT Center at Oak Hill and learned about universal lift systems.  Thank you for all your help.  This new lift should give me a much better, fuller, self-sufficient life.  Your kindness will be remembered."
