We Take Our Responsibility Seriously

Emma

For the stewardship of the money we receive; using it to fund programs and provide services that our clients would not have been able to afford on their own.

  • 70% of people who are blind are unemployed in Connecticut.  Oak Hill responded by developing a vocational center for the blind and visually impaired to give them support, training and employment.  The program is free to clients, but costs $90,000 a year to run.
  • Oak Hill offers 241 camperships for children and adults with disabilities.  Camp fosters independence, self-confidence, skill development and social interaction.  A one-week camperships is nearly $1,000, yet the sheer joy that campers experience is priceless.
  • The NEAT Center at Oak Hill provides access to affordable equipment that would not otherwise be available to people with disabilities.  Consider three-year-old Emma whose father was able to buy her a used wheelchair for just $80.  The cost of that same equipment  new is $2,500
